Work in Progress

You oughta hear the mirror in my house You oughta fear her pretty, pretty mouth Says I’m imperfect in every way: “Miss Almost, Miss Maybe, Miss Halfway”/...But I’m gonna burn, I’m gonna shine and multiply I’m gonna fill up the great divide You’ll never break me with all the things you say “Miss Almost, Miss Maybe, Miss Halfway”

I SURVIVED!!!!!

So I had an evil sight singing test of doom *and* a melodic dictation test of IMINENT DOOM today. I was really freaked out. In fact, I've been unreasonably stressed about both all week. Sight singing (having the music and singing the intervals w/o anything in the background) was more of a concern...it wasn't at first, but when I went to practice Tuesday morning I realized that I seriously could NOT get interval distances with my voice. At all. My major seconds sounded like minor seconds and I don't even know what was going on with any of my thirds. It took me about two hours to kind of be able to plunk through the first four (out of nine two or three line, small songs), but I could only stay around the right pitch when I'd hit random notes on the piano while I was singing. It was bad. I've been practicing it for two or three hours every single freaking day. I was going to go for another hour this morning, but my throat is a little sore and I've done so much I realized that whatever was going to happen was just going to happen and that was it. If I started practicing and got it right I'd be over confident (which is not good), if I got it wrong I'd be a basket case. It was a good thing I didn't practice today as my voice really started cracking when I started the test. And guess what?
I GOT AN A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D=D=D=D=D=D=D=D=D=D
I'm pretty much ecstatic. I was expecting *maybe* a B. Maybe.
And the dictation test...where the prof plays a little melody on the piano, we're given the time and key signatures with the starting note and we have to write out the rest of the notes and the rhythms. It went really really well. I've been practicing that like no other as well. I think I did 18 practice things on the Horvit CD over a span of a couple of days. Pretty much, I've been doing nothing outside of ear training this week. Yahoo.
To celebrate surviving I got some Ben and Jerry's from the Den and just had almost half. Ha. =]
LESS THAN TWO WEEKS UNTIL THANKSGIVING!!!
Outside of the world of ear training and all things evil, life's been good. I'm so freakishly happy that it's Friday. Seriously. I've been going on 4-5 hours of sleep every night this week. Yesterday Mountain Dew started losing its effect on me...which never happens. Normally I can randomly nap during the day or go back to bed after my maintenance job before my first class, but I've had so much to get through I only did that once-yesterday, and in the half hour I had to sleep I had a full-blown REM cycle crazy type dream that I still remember. Normally it takes me a half hour to lose consciousness. I've been exhausted. But it's OK...I survived the tests. And life is glorious.
Tonight is Spiderman 3 watching with my suite as Sarah's going home and Rachel V is in the play. Tomorrow is going to the play. And now officially begins the rush to accomplish as much as humanly possible before Christmas with Wartburg because I will have no life outside of concerts that week...which is really really exciting. =D In my world, at least. But I'm giving myself a day or two of no ear training. =D
